Besides being a resource for beginners, this community has monthly discussion posts for logged-in users to discuss roleplay on Dreamwidth. You can use a personal journal, a roleplay journal, or a sockpuppet journal to comment here.

The rules here are simple:

Do not call out any particular individual player by name.
Be kind to one another.

The general purpose of this community is to be uplifting and helpful, so although political and religious topics are not banned, arguments should not take place here. If you feel yourself getting heated, it's best to take a step back.

Notice something in the post getting out of hand? Report it here.

Some further notes:

This community (and the DWRP community in general) is anti-AI. Do not discuss using generative AI for RPing or for graphics help purposes here.
Please check previously posted headers before posting a new one, in order to ensure you are not repeating something that's already been added to the post.
All solicitation should be made on this comm in designated areas. Check enablemeplz's monthly post to respond to advertisements on anon, should you wish to.
Remember this is a logged-in comm, so if you choose to post something specific about your experience with another player, it may identify who you are.

I am creating this post to get input and suggestions on creating the monthly posts in this community in the future.

The first actual monthly post will go up at the same time as enablemeplz's monthly post on September 12, 2026.

The current template I have created is below the line. Keep in mind that enablemeplz has posted a sample of what future posts will look like and that I am deliberately trying not to duplicate anything.

Please use the Suggestions heading below to comment on what you think should change about this sample post for the future.

How it works:

Use random.org or a D6 to roll for the type of scene
Then roll a D20 for the scenario!
Alternatively, you can always take the option under ⑦ and choose your own

Dreamwidth has storage on each account for up to 500mb of images. It's best to upload JPGs rather than PNGs if you want to maximize your space, as the file size is smaller. However, for RP purposes this is usually plenty of space. ( Read more... )

Browser extensions for RP

A lot of people are making the leap from Chrome and other browsers to Firefox for privacy and security reasons. I personally have made this switch, and being a heavy user of browser extensions I've also found several that help make RP easier.

I have included a the comparable Chrome extensions after the Firefox-specific ones, but I do recommend Firefox at this point.

A lot of people who RP on DW like to use Gmail for their email service so that they can use Gmail's automatic label function to sort their characters and games via automatic labeling. This tutorial includes tips originally found on Vivi's tutorial that was written some years ago, but the screenshots include Gmail's updated look and feel, and also includes other tips for functions I personally use to sort my incoming RP emails.

The following tricks can only be done on desktop. I looked for a way to do it on mobile and couldn't find a way.
